Fandom: Girl Meets World
Rating: Typically, I’m writing between T-M rated content.
Spoilers/Time Line: None. My writing is usually AU, PU, or future set. However, I can think of one spoiler for sure; don’t know if I’ll mention it though.
Pairing: Rilaya (Riley/Maya)
Beta Type: SPaG, content, plot/idea help.
Warnings: The story I’m planning at this point does not deal with any triggers. However, it does feature a same-sex female pairing. Cursing will take place, but not heavily. No offensive remarks or any other offending material is planned or expected to happen.
Harshness: On a scale of 1-10, I’m ideally looking for a 6. Basically, just be respectful and explain any edits/suggestions. My writing is very important to me and I don’t take well to receiving it back covered in red ink. You need to strongly back-up your suggestions (besides technical ones) in order for me to not become offended. Telling me to remove, reword, or that something doesn’t make sense without the explanation really doesn’t help me at all. I want to grow, not shirk.
Other: Okay, I have a few things for this section…

I’ve had one heck of a time trying to find a beta in this fandom and that screws me over for several reasons. You do not have to be in the fandom or even watch the show to help. Like mentioned, my stores are not set within canon world or timeline. Anyone with a critical eye and passion to help can do this job.

I’d really like to find someone who’s in a time zone that’s friendly to mine. Would love to have a partnership with said person and feel comfortable enough to share plot ideas and grow stories from them. An individual with the time needed to provide beta services is very important and required.

If you're curiously about my writing style, length, or whatever...

Fandom: Shadowhunters (TV)
Characters/Pairings: Alec/Magnus and Alec & Jace (i.e. platonic) with assorted minor friendships
Rating & Warnings: Rated T. Canon-typical content, with Talking About Emotions (so assorted mental health potential triggers).
Estimated Fic Length: 20-40k words, with individual chapters at 4-6k.
Notes: Needs beta for typo-hunting and sp&g screen. I'm an ESL speaker who usually passes for native and plays around with syntax a lot, so comfort with long sentences and an ability to discern between "non-grammatical", "difficult to understand" and "stylistically unfavored" are necessary. For recent examples of what my writing looks like, see [archiveofourown.org profile] Hagar. (Specifically, the work for which I'm beta-seeking is sequel to The Woods.)

Fandom: Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny

Characters/Pairings: Merlin/Luke, Merlin/Martin, Martin/Luke, Ghostwheel, Mandor

Rating & Warnings: Explicit. Non-con. Darkfic. Revenge. Canon divergent AU. Some non-canon speculation about shapeshifters and sex and gender and identity. Merlin monologues a bit. Weak ending/requires sequel.

Notes: I’m writing for [community profile] iddyiddybangbang, so the deadline is the 15th. The story is about 33000 words, and I’m more in need of a beta who can tell me if the characterization is erratic and if I have left Chekov’s gun unfired or failed to adequately explain something. A SPaG check would be appreciated but is less important. This story diverges from canon after Luke left Merlin in the Blue Crystal Cave and has some very, very unpleasant things happen to Merlin as part of the backstory. The unpleasant things in the story itself are pretty much all things that Merlin does, more or less in response, and things he remembers. The Merlin/Martin is consensual. Everything with Luke is not.
havocthecat: star with the phrase "lost girl" (lost boys star)
[personal profile] havocthecat
Fandom: The Lost Boys (1987 film)
Characters/Pairings: Star/Michael/David
Rating & Warnings: sex, bloodplay, canon-appropriate levels of violence
Notes: This is a twenty years post-canon story where Star and Michael were never really cured, and David has been after them. I bring in a handful of plot points from The Thirst and The Tribe, mostly related to Alan and Sam in their only vaguely canon-ish post-credits and deleted scenes, and bringing Zoe in so that Star is not The Girl of the story. Story is about 25k words long.
cocoabean: (xkcd → working)

Fandom: Legend of Korra
Characters/Pairings: Focus on Korra but Korra/Asami happens.
Rating & Warnings: PG for violence and implied violence
Notes: AU Canon divergence after Battle of Zaofu but with references to most of what happens in canon. I wrote this for [livejournal.com profile] heroinebigbang and my usual beta is a bit stressed what with her last week of classes so I don't want to overwhelm her. Posting date is for the 11th so kind of need this urgently.
sashataakheru: (Default)
[personal profile] sashataakheru
Fandom: Electric Light Orchestra RPF
Characters/Pairings: Jeff Lynne/Roy Wood/Hugh McDowell; references original characters who don't appear in the actual fic
Rating & Warnings: FRM/contains angst, safe consensual kink (whipping, chain restraints), no sex
Notes: This is being written for [community profile] polybigbang, and I'm looking for someone to help me with plot, structure, and consistency, since I basically pulled this idea out of my arse some time last month for wont of a better idea.

It basically takes place in a basement, over the course of a few hours. I'm writing a D/D/s polykink relationship. Much of the story is about them finding their feet together, and trying to make it work, amidst all the mundane complications of life.

It's a sequel to another fic of mine, but I want it to stand alone as much as possible. My draft is currently sitting at 10.5k, and could possibly do with a better ending.

I'd be very grateful if anyone could help me out with this. I don't need you to know the fandom, just be willing to beta obscure RPF, and help get the plot into shape.
sashataakheru: (Default)
[personal profile] sashataakheru
Fandom: The Move RPF AU
Characters/Pairings: It's a long plotty fic focussing on FtM!Ace Kefford and FtM!Bev Bevan, and their experiences growing up trans*, and finding their place in the world.
Rating & Warnings: Mature/Explicit; warnings include consensual underage sexual situations, childhood trauma and abuse, mental illness (depression, suicidal thoughts, paranoia, psychosis?), self-harming/self-injury, and body dysphoria. There may be others I haven't picked up along the way, but that's a good overview.
Notes: This is a rewrite of an old [community profile] queer_fest fic, The Girl Outside, without the ridiculous class differences and with better character development. It's been much better edited, and I've completely rewritten at least half of it from scratch.

I'm still working on finishing up the ending, but I'd still like to start getting the first chapters worked on, since I have a month to get this finished. At this stage, I'd mostly just appreciate having someone to look over it to let me know if it all makes sense plot-wise, whether the character development is consistent and plausible, and whether anything needs to be added or cut.

Canon/fandom knowledge isn't necessary, since it's an AU, and obscure fandoms are obscure and hard to find betas for.

If you'd like to help me out, or know someone who might, comment here, PM me, or shoot me an email at ibdjehuty AT gmail.com.

morgynleri: a togruta Jedi initiate (morien nemain)
[personal profile] morgynleri
Fandom: Star Wars Prequel Trilogy
Characters/Pairings: Focus is on OCs, but Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi feature prominently as well. No romantic pairings, though there is a brief reference to a sexual pairing OFC/OMC.
Rating & Warnings: PG, some violence but none of it graphic, frank discussion of sex/procreation
Notes:

Mostly, I'm looking for someone to look it over to make sure the pieces all work as snippets of life that allow a reader to get a picture of the characters as individuals, and how they work together. This story is meant to be more of a backstory piece for working on an AU retelling of The Phantom Menace (and probably the rest of the movies, but that will probably be a while), so it's not so much got a plot as a general direction from the youth of the main character to right before the events of Phantom Menace.

2. Fandom Babylon 5 (not AU)
3. Rating of the story PG-13 (some harsh language, mild sexuality in some of the sub-fics, probably rated R for violence for some of the sub-fics set during wartime). Gen, mostly OC.

5. Pairing None.
6. Beta Type See project description below.

(X-posted to Livejournal and Tumblr)

Hi everyone!

I am looking for an experienced beta reader with a deep knowledge of B5 canon (or who is willing to learn!) to help me with a project I am working on. I am a professional editor and experienced writer, so I really don’t need much help with grammar/spelling/punctuation, and I already have several internet and RL friends who can read for pacing, development of suspense, and the like. What I need is someone with a passion for the subject matter, who can help both with canon research (this work is NOT AU and is meticulously canon consistent), and with larger, more “big picture” development of the project, as well as working with me to help ensure that different subsections work together smoothly and form a coherent whole.

I have been working on this project, in one form or another, nearly daily for over two years, in between my “real life” professional commitments. I take this project very seriously and am looking for betas who can work with that level of dedication and persistence! :-)

Project description:

In Book 3 of the Psi Corps Trilogy (Final Reckoning), Bester reflects, as he thinks about what book he might write, “It wasn’t his story he wanted to tell, but the story of his people. Of all his people, even those who had betrayed him, or worse, their own kind.”

This is, in essence, that book, though it comes about in a somewhat different way. In the aftermath of the Telepath War (known in the community as the Crisis), the main character (herself a telepath) is collecting a series of stories from other telepaths, chronicling through their varied personal narratives the collective history of her people. Her work aims to preserve these stories for future generations, who don’t (directly) remember life before the war, so they can find answers to the questions they will ask themselves one day when they grow up: who are we? who were we? and what happened to us?

This is a project that aims to fundamentally reframe and refocus canon: not to parrot the same old normal-centered narratives “about” telepaths, but to present telepaths’ narratives of their own lives (especially the perspective of telepaths in Psi Corps, whose perspective is even more invalidated by canon’s bias). This project centers the perspectives of this marginalized, insular and culturally distinct (though itself quite heterogeneous) telepath community, thereby challenging and even subverting the limited presentation given in canon.

It is, in a nutshell, the “other side of the story,” the side canon never told you.

Individual sub-fics (all of which stand alone) take place in different times and cover different subjects, so if something is a trigger for you, it is still possible to help out with the project, in other areas.

Interested betas are welcome to contact me here or at tesseract at operamail dot com. If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer them for you. Please also feel free to pass this along to anyone you may know who may be interested in my work, or in helping out.

Thank you!

As I'm having the worst luck with betas, but really need one who can chew me out, if necessary and goes for flow as well as grammar, I though I ask again. the story is very long, very plot driven and really appreciate some serious criticism. You don't need to catch up on the 140k already posted, I've summaries and besides if something really doesn't make sense because of missing plot knowledge, I can always clear that up, and no harm done.

7. HarshnessBe very harsh, bring out the club - but if that's not your style I can roll with gentle, too.

Basically it's a labour of love, that will do so much better if I have someone tapping me on the fingers till I stopped making the worst mistakes. What can I say, these days things need a bit longer until they stick.

EDIT: Could still use someone for the bonus rounds (no word count limit, but probably no more than 2k), but there's also a shorter time frame from challenge to posting date. Otherwise the same as for the main challenge applies:

Rating & Warnings: Adult; explicit sex, canon-typical action scenes and violence, dubious consent and consent issues Religion happens.
Notes:This is the continuation of my Loopholes and Needle Eyes and is approximately 30ish pages. I'm looking for help making sure characters are on spec and that I've carried all my threads. I can take a critical beta, though I like it couched constructively.

PM for email.

Rating & Warnings: This is mature/explicit, has dubious consent and refers obliquely to canon rape.
Notes: I'm trying to keep this compliant through Ghost Story and may spoiler through that. it's about 26pgs

I'm looking for a critical beta, making sure everything hangs together and that I've made it a strong story drawing from the canon and dealing with character motivations.

Hello! I've caught up on tags again to prepare for the new year.

Another reminder that I won't add a tag for a specific fandom until at least two different people post about that fandom on the comm. If you don't see your fandom in the tag list, you're proably looking for a catch-all tag:
  • fandom: tv shows (other)
  • fandom: movies (other)
  • fandom: books (other)
  • fandom: video games (other)
  • fandom: webcomics (other)
  • fandom: web series (other)
  • fandom: animanga series
I regularly go through the catch-all tags to see if there are any doubles that need to be moved to a tag of their own. If you want to get your own fandom tag faster, encourage your friends to use this comm too! :D

I've also added the new tag "fandom: star trek (reboot)", to try and differentiate the newer movies from the older tv series and movies. We've not yet had more than one person asking for betas in each individual star trek series, which is why they're still using the catch-all "fandom: star trek series."

If there's anything else I can do to make the comm's tag system easier to use, please let me know. Thank you for using [community profile] betaplease and happy new year! Please remember to tag your posts!

Fandom: Andromeda
Characters/Pairings: its AU setting set shortly after the events of the 3rd season episode "The Unconquerable Man" featuring Gaheris Rahde, Beka Valentine, Rommie and Seamus Harper
Rating & Warnings: Probably no more than PG 13, shading into R. It for Round 3 of the mulitfandom Journey Story 3.0 Big Bang and clocks in at just over 10k.
Notes: Looking for basic mechanics, verb tense agreement, spelling, grammar, story flow, continuity. The draft is due to the mod for the purposes of artist claiming by the 2nd of November, but the final thing isn't due until early January. I use Libreoffice, which is as close as I can get to MS office, but it's a docx file format. Just a heads up.

note to Mod: I think I need a fandom tag for Andromeda.

Thanks and take care, karrenia

Fandom: Star Trek: Voyager
Characters/Pairings: Janeway/Chakotay
Rating & Warnings: PG-13, non graphic sex
Notes: Oneshot. Rewrite of a prompt fill, the original version is here, the prompt and challenge info is in the notes/headers. The revised version is around 1000 words. I need someone to check consistency and anything that looks odd, repeated or rushed. The timeline is post Cathexis (season 1) and is set sometime after Chakotay is released from sickbay.

Fandom: Star Trek: Voyager
Characters/Pairings: Janeway, Chakotay, the crew and a couple of OC's
Rating & Warnings: PG, nothing to warn for at the moment
Notes: Long fic (3 chapters, epilogue). This is for [community profile] kidficstory big bang and is due Jan/Feb 2014. It is currently a WIP and I think it'll be a little over 8000 words when it's finished. It is an AU of the episodes Concerning Flight, Mortal Coil and Waking Moments (season 4) with references to the episode Prime Factors (season 1). I need someone to check consistency, and anything that looks odd, repeated or rushed. It is gen.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Fandom: Sherlock Holmes, Ritchie verse
Characters/Pairings: Blackwood/Coward, Holmes/Watson, Blackwood/Coward/Holmes
Rating & Warnings: NC-17, character death, bloodplay, amputation, dubcon
Notes: I'm looking for someone to give more content betaing than spag (though that's always appreciated as well). I'm mainly looking to make sure that things make sense to people outside my brain, that things flow in a way that doesn't completely strain believability, and that my characterizations remain consistent. This is long (for me)! Right now it's around 22k, and it's not actually done yet. It goes in fits and starts, but it's gotten to a point where the end is in sight, so I'm looking for a beta now in hopes I'll actually find one by the time it's done. This is a very dark story with no happy endings, lots of sex, and a considerable amount of kink (originally for a kink big bang), if those are things you have problems with. You can get a sense of how 'everyone always dies' is apparently my motto from my other fics. :) I'm ok with it taking some time to go over this fic, would like to find someone who is willing to have some back and forth conversation on it.

Fandom: Natsume Yuujinchou
Characters/Pairings: Natsume & Tanuma (friendship); Natsume, Tanuma, Nyanko-Sensei, Original Youkai Character
Rating & Warnings: General or Teen; angst, peril, and suggestions of past child abuse, but no sex, violence, or strong language.

Summary: Natsume is haunted by recurring dreams that he's drowning. He and Nyanko-Sensei have set out to investigate when a mysterious youkai appears --- one who knows the problem lies in Natsume's past and needs Tanuma's help to put things right before it's too late.

Notes: Complete draft in two parts, approx. 28,000 words total. I plan to post a final version at the end of March.

The draft is posted on my journal:

Fandom: Taggart

Characters/Pairings: Robbie, Jackie, Matt, Duncan, Mita, Karen and Stuart; with Robbie/Jackie ship

Rating & Warnings: NC-17. Historical domestic violence, historical child abuse, murder, sex and suicide

Notes: It's set post series with references to several earlier eps and the first draft is finished and around 13k, there is 10 chapters + prologue/epilogue. I need any repetition pointing out as well as odd looking sentence and paragraph structures, some SPAG too. I also need to know that the story and timeline(s) make sense too. As the fandom is tiny I'm not expecting canon knowledge but I do know enough to answer any questions that might crop up.
