Beta request: Star Wars Prequels

Characters: Shmi Skywalker, original characters, Anakin Skywalker, Cliegg Lars, Owen Lars, Beru Lars
Rating & Warnings: Teen; warning for abduction, descriptions of physical distress, description of a panic attack
Estimated Fic Length: 49k

Notes:

The fic is a fix-it AU of Episode II that diverges after Shmi Skywalker is abducted by the Tuskens, with Shmi as the protagonist.

I’m primarily looking for a “structural edit” type of beta - story arc, plot holes, characterization, pacing, that kind of stuff. The story is almost all written up and even partially line-edited, but I’m willing to take an axe to it if need be.

There is quite a lot of original world-building, if that would be an issue. It would be great if you knew the canon, as I’m making characterization decisions and I’d love some opinion on that, but it isn’t necessary.

This sounds really interesting, especially the decision to center Shmi instead of Anakin; it sucked that she apparently existed just so Anakin would have something to angst over, since she practically disappears from the story after Anakin rescues her. I'm really curious about this, but I currently don't have the time to go over a fic of this length. ^^;; Just wanted to say that this sounds like a great idea and I hope it turns out well.

Thanks for the kind words, it's nice to hear it sounds interesting. I won't claim any originality, there is a small but solid corner of fans on AO3 who write Shmi Skywalker fics who inspired my interest in her as a character. Then I started thinking about her death and the "evil natives randomly abduct and kill a woman for no discernible reason" trope, and before I knew it I was in too deep to stop. :D
