Hi friends! I’m looking for a beta reader (or two) to give feedback on my VERY rough completed first draft of a contemporary queer romance/WLW novel. It’s a heartwarming, emotional, and intimate story about two best friends who end up in a surprise Vegas marriage—only to discover they’re expecting a baby.

Genre: Contemporary WLW Romance / Queer Domestic Drama

Length: Approx. 60,629 words (I’m looking to get it up to 70k)

Notes: This short story is for a submission call. I already have an editor looking at it, but I could use a second pair of eyes. I'm ESL and while some of my Danglish (Danish-English) is intentional, some of it is not, and I could really use some help weeding out the latter. I could also use a more trained smut gaze than my own on the sex parts. I use a deliberately flowery language, but I still want it to read as "proper" smut and could use help there.

Summary: Everything seems to be looking up for the Marchdale sisters - Marianne marrying up, Agnes tagging along to take advantage of the freedom their new wealth provides - when a long-buried scandal from the past rears its head and threatens to overturn everything.

Beta type: I'm looking for a reader's perspective on what feels unfinished - do the characters feel believable? Is there anything that feels unexplained or confusing? Are there any plot holes or inconsistencies? Does the ending feel rushed? Did any questions arise that you want answered?

Notes: This is a queer regency ghost story, a Northanger Abbey x The Devil's Backbone sort of outfit. Familiarity with regency lit would be beneficial! I don't have a hard deadline on this but would love to get feedback by the end of March or beginning of April if at all possible.

Summary: Hilbert of Rasfura is a warlord who invades Fleuyan, partly on the request of its subjects, partly for his own reasons, and he forces the Princess Solange to marry him. Hilbert has a reputation for being a fierce and ruthless tyrant, but Solange discovers in him more of a gentleman like the knights in fairy tales. Despite the rocky start to their relationship, they share the same desire to protect their now united subjects, which is hopefully enough for them to overcome their differences and fall in love. The story focuses on developing their relationship.

Beta Type: If possible I would love for you to read the story over and give me any thoughts afterwards like a review-type thing. While I would definitely appreciate you pointing out errors, places where the prose could flow better, etc. I'm mostly hoping for a sort of reader's perspective type of beta that helps me figure out what's working and what's not. (Hopefully this also means it doesn't take too long for your own sake!)

Notes: This fic is for a fandom event that's due in October. I do have a fan-artist that's waiting to see the fic but I can get it in a semi-acceptable shape by myself if a more immediate deadline is inconvenient for you. limits: I'm not interested in reading anything above and R-rating, and my market knowledge only goes up through middle grade, maybe a little YA. I am only interested in beta reading original work, though I am happy to cheer for your fanfic from the sidelines, too.
